	Modern road and railway design depends largely on software developed by specialist companies. Grontmij | Carl Bro as selected the InRoads, InRail and MXRoads package by Bentley as a basis for Computer-Aided Design of roads and railways. InRoads and MXRoad is used for terrain modelling, alignment and typical cross sections as well as for modelling superelevations and drainage conditions etc. for road and rail projects while InRail is used for the statistical processing of track measurements and alignment design. We Develop our own Supplementary Tools The Grontmij | Carl Bro design experts have developed their own supplementary software to these packages. Our own design tools comprise automated intersection and interchange design, slope patterning, a GIS-based system for land acquisition and surveying and tools to improve the efficiency and quality of daily design procedures and project documentation. The visualisation tools comprise photomontage and prospective modelling. Road Safety Most accidents happen at road intersections. At the same time intersections often constitute bottlenecks in the road network. To improve this situation, our road design experts have analysed a wide range of traffic management measures, taking into consideration road safety, capacity and environment. Other important issues are road condition, layout of the intersection, traffic pattern and capacity as well as safety conditions at intersections.
