The key to successful supervision of a road construction project is a well balanced onsite team consisting of experienced engineers, local inspectors, laboratory technicians, surveyors and administrative staff. FIDIC International Federation of Consulting Engineers In today’s modern road construction industry most road projects are based on the FIDIC terms. These involve the Client who is providing the finance, the Contractor who is carrying out the construction works and the Consultant who ensures that the project road complies with the specified quality, time-limit and costs.
According to the FIDIC terms Grontmij | Carl Bro acts as the “Engineer”, and becomes involved during all phases of the project including the pre-contract period and the post-contract period as well.
The team will ensure that the Contractor submits various bonds, working programme and details about staff and equipment before commencing construction works. When the works are completed the “Engineer” issues a Taking Over Certificate and a list of any outstanding works to be carried out during the defects liability period.
