Water demands related to water supply, agriculture, energy and industry are growing, and the demand exceeds the supply in many countries. Knowing the quantity and quality of the water resources, and how to protect them, is the basis for utilising the resources – at present and in the future.
Investigation – exploitation – protection
Water resource exploitation deals with finding and exploiting sufficient water of a suitable quality to meet the needs of the society at large and protecting the resource from deterioration of quantity and quality. Typical activities are:
