A remarkable, new residential building near Vejle Fjord will contain more than 100 top-of-the-range flats.
In July 2007 construction commenced on a brand new landmark for Vejle; a remarkable 10-floor residential building in Skyttehusbugten down by the bay.
The ambitious building is called Bølgen (The Wave), and is part of an overall plan for developing the port area. Tendering for the area near Skyttehusbugten is the first part of the project. Linked to the Bølgen project, there are plans for an adjacent public promenade down by the bay.
Grontmij | Carl Bro was awarded the assignment as consultant engineer on the project, which is now in the planning phase. The first contracts are expected to be put out to tender at the start of the new year, and the first apartments are planned to be ready to receive their new occupants at the end of 2008.

Sculpture with functional livingThe architectural challenges in the project have been to create a sculpture combined with functional and well-designed living down to the smallest detail. Søren Øllgaard from Henning Larsens Tegnestue, which was awarded the assignment in competition with 11 other architecture companies, explains:
“The inspiration for Bølgen was taken from the Vejle landscape and the Scandinavian tradition. Finding the thread between a metaphorical sculpture and a functional residential environment was an exciting challenge.”
Bølgen has been designed to look attractive from both the water and the town, and the same concept has been incorporated into the apartments, which are permeated with views of both the undulating urban landscape and the water.
“As a starting point, expression is what is most important. The apartments have therefore been planned in a minimalist style, with glass facades and balconies, so full attention will be drawn to the wave shape from the outside,” concludes Søren Øllgaard.
First-class apartmentsThe apartments, which number more than 100 and are spread over 10 floors in each of the five ‘wave’ tops, will be at the exclusive end of the accommodation market. The apartments are of various sizes and will appeal to a broad public, but what the purchasers will have in common is that they enjoy life and value aesthetics in their everyday life.
FACTS Bølgen in Vejle will include 115 new luxury apartments in 5 blocks, totalling 14,000 m2 spread over 10 floors. Those involved in the construction include Grontmij | Carl Bro as consultant engineer, property company Bertel Nielsen A/S as client and Henning Larsens Tegnestue as architects. |
