In co-operation with Bisgaard Landskabsarkitekter Aps, Grontmij | Carl Bro has won a project to renovate the Copenhageners’ most popular park – Fælledparken. Concepts such as sustainability and quality of life shall go hand in hand in the renewal. Spanning an area of 60 hectares, and with more than 11 million annual visitors, Fælledparken is the preferred activity park of the Copenhagen citizens.
Grontmij | Carl Bro acts as consultants for Københavns Kommune (the Copenhagen Municipality) on a project aimed at developing the park’s physical frames in such a way that the more than 100-year-old park will meet the requirements of the modern Copenhagener. It is the foundation A.P. Møller og Hustru Chastine Mc-Kinney Møllers Fond til almene Formaal which has donated DKK 152 million to Københavns Kommune for purposes of renovating Fælledparken.

-”With continued respect for upholding the original vision from 1909, the park is going to be developed with e.g. new exercise tracks for joggers, a sports field of artificial grass, the largest skating park in Northern Europe, a swing park, multi-purpose fields and a new dance area – and better illumination by night to facilitate improved opportunity for the citizens to make use of the park activities”, says Bo Bonnerup, Head Consultant in Grontmij | Carl Bro.
The focus is not just on activities, since nature also constitutes a central aspect in the shape of renewal and supplementation of the park plants, and – to give pleasure and enjoyment to every Copenhagener taking delight in a stroll in the park – a system of additional path systems will be established.
Being mindful of the many Fælledparken users, the renewal will be take place over a period of several years, and the project is expected to be accomplished by 2012.
