Past traditions meet future residential building when Denmark’s first +low-energy house, which will deliver more energy than it consumes, is built in the Region of Southern Denmark.
In association with Project Zero, SIB Byggeri, Danfoss and Syd Energi, Grontmij | Carl Bro is building the +house aimed at stimulating environmental and energy consciousness plus modern consumer behaviour.
- With this house, we showcase that Danish families can fulfil their dreams of a magnificent and functional home while at the same time having a house producing more energy than it consumes. In the long term, this type of house will have an improved overall economy as compared with conventional building, says Christian Udby, department head at Grontmij | Carl Bro.
The first SIB-Zero+ house has already been sold; and on the 1st of February 2009, the family will move in at Prins Henriks Avenue in the city of Soenderborg.
About the SIB-Zero+ houseThe house of the future to the Danes of the present In a world of rising energy prices, scarcity of resources and a desire for energy efficient behaviour, the SIB-Zero+ low-energy house offers a bid for the dwelling of the future. It will be the first house in Denmark with the potential of a positive annual energy audit. The house will be generating more energy than it consumes and thus be capable of supplying its neighbours with power – hence the plus. The energy surplus is created by means of solar-cell panels on the roof, a substantial insulation of the entire house, exploitation of daylight/passive solar heat, ventilation with heat recirculation, ventilation preheated from ground-heat, and a ground-source heat pump.
Effortless energy efficiency The house has been designed for the average Danish family. With its 200 m2 in size, it is a modern and comfortable house offering the buyers great opportunity to add their own personal touch. The dwelling is easy to maintain – and easy to live in. The energy efficiency has been incorporated in the house from foundation to roof ridge, thus ensuring the owner a normal, energy-conscious life while avoiding electricity and heating bills.
When the electricity meter turns backwards The SIB Zero+ house demonstrates the long-term sound economy in good practices when building houses that produce more energy than they consume. From the very first sod, the most novel technology has been applied to ensure minimal energy consumption. The SIB-Zero+ air density will retain the heat inside the house. At the same time, the roof construction of house has an integrated 50 m2 system of electric solar cells which will literally set the electricity meter spinning backwards whenever the plant is in surplus.
