GRONTMIJ ACQUIRES LEADING UK LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE FIRM WHITELAW TURKINGTON

Market leading engineering firm expands to become one of Europe’s leading sustainable design consultancies.

European engineering consultancy Grontmij today announced the complete acquisition of the UK’s leading landscape architecture firm Whitelaw Turkington. This acquisition fits in with Grontmij's strategy to strengthen its services portfolio with sustainable design and planning competences as well as to widen its client base. This acquisition brings best-in-class landscape architectural capabilities to the Grontmij Group’s services portfolio.

Headquartered in Kennington, South London, with a satellite office in Leeds, Whitelaw Turkington promptly contributes to the earnings per share and achieved in 2007 an EBIT-margin higher than the average of the Grontmij Group. Whitelaw Turkington brings an additional 70 employees to Grontmij’s 1,000 strong workforce in the UK and Ireland. Bringing Grontmij’s award winning European landscape architects and Whitelaw Turkington employees together makes Grontmij one of Europe’s largest players in the
sector.

The firm’s services will extend Grontmij’s existing capabilities in regeneration and development to include landscape design and contract administration, site planning, landscape master planning, urban design and community enabling while strengthening services in environmental assessment and complimenting the group’s international planning and design capabilities.

Whitelaw Turkington achieved a turnover of £ 3.6 million (€ 5.4 million) in 2006/07 (year ending 30 June) and is one of the UK’s fastest growing consultancies. The firm has been engaged in a number of high profile landscape design initiatives in the past year, including a £ 3.3 million (€ 4.9 million) contract from the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham for the urban redevelopment of Shepherd’s Bush Common and the redesign of the square that marks the entrance to O2, the former Millennium Dome. Other specialist contracts span a variety of vertical markets, including commercial, residential development, education, healthcare, leisure development, urban regeneration and parks and open spaces.

Whitelaw Turkington will retain its identity and high quality design ethos within the Grontmij Group alongside their existing award winning European landscape architects.
