IN TRAFFIC, EVERYONE MATTERS

04/02/2009
To us, it is essential to consider every single aspect of a topic in order to deliver an optimal and future-proof solution. Therefore, when it is a question of infrastructure, we collect input from all public road users – be they young or old, light or heavy.

An excellent example illustrating our 360-degree considerations is the development of the traffic vision for the Danish town Hillerød. Through a constructive process and in close co-operation with local politicians, stakeholders and citizens, we have worked out the vision for a long-lasting solution ensuring the most optimal framework possible for the infrastructure of the future.

The project is a visionary planning project, relevant as well as future-oriented. The traffic vision looks 15 years ahead and it has been prepared on the basis of a combination of process facilitation and professional planning. Rather than limiting the focus to current issues, we have focused on planning, development and future needs. In short, this is about a positive development project with the vision being developed prior to the solution – a project where the vision has not been based solely on the solution of currently recognised issues.

In other words: we have turned the assignment upside down.

With our traffic vision, we suggest making the central town space into a peaceful area. Our point of departure is that of creating a living and experience-rich urban space where traffic becomes an active co-player underlining and underpinning the experience dimensions of the town centre. We intend to expand the living spaces of the town in order that they fan out across the town and make it a living and experience-rich place for people – whether for living, dwelling or working.

Our traffic vision has come about through a process where views and ideas from a cross section of all road users have been listened to, a process where the road users have contributed with a reciprocal interchange and development of the ideas.

Our contract comprises:

  • a traffic vision underpinning an experience-rich town with an attractive urban space
  • a strategic plan for traffic movement in Hillerød
  • an action plan for the realisation of Traffic Vision 2021
The traffic vision has been prepared in co-operation with JUUL | FROST Architects.
