Review of Performance of Danish Support to Microfinance, 2005, financed by Danida
The review will at least assess whether:
- Danida’s support to microfinance has been designed in accordance with good practices of microfinance intermediation, including Danida guidelines and CGAP guidelines, and if this is not the case identify and assess the reasons that may have been given for deviation.
- There is reporting on microfinance activities in accordance with good practices, including Danida and CGAP guidelines, including outreach, repayment performance, and sustainability/profitability disaggregated with respect to gender, and if feasible including impact (employment, turn over and profits of borrowers).
- Projects that report financial performance tend to do better than those that do not.
- Microfinance has performed better in projects/components that have worked through financial sector institutions (banks and other financial institutions supervised by public authorities) rather than through non-financial sector organisations (such as NGOs).
- Recommend future mechanisms for improved procedures and monitoring.
