VIETNAM. EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT TO ETHNIC MINORITIES

The project is designed as an action research and pilot project to develop strategies and models for the development of Primary Education.The project is holistic of nature focusing on the school infrastructure, improved income for families through integrated farming system, curriculum development, educational information system and improved school management through training and development of better systems.

The tasks include:

  • Develop and pilot a training course in theory and techniques for educating children;
  • Survey schools, refurbish or build new ones as needed;
  • Establish a joint “resource base” for teachers working with second language learners;
  • Develop and pilot ethnic minority familiarisation programme for teachers and informal educator;
  • In conjunction with the Lai Chau Teacher Training College outline and pilot a capacity development programme for teachers on
  • child centred teaching techniques;
  • Design, plan and implement a course for members of the supervision branches of DOET which will enable them to monitor
  • Evaluate the curriculum using not only quantifiable, but also qualitative indicators
  • Produce a plan identifying possible options, costs and organisational arrangements for setting up living laboratory classrooms
  • Outline and carry out a study tour/professional exchange programme for a sample of teachers and teacher trainers to teacher training colleges with a reputation in child centred teacher training.
