In an international bidding competition Grontmij | Carl Bro were just selected among seven international firms and have just signed a contract to implement three urban tourism development packages under the World Bank financed Ningbo and Shaoxing Tourism and Community Development Project.
During a period of 12 months Grontmij | Carl Bro will provide technical assistance to the two cities for implementation of the three separate but interlinked tourism development projects comprising:
- Tourism development in Ningbo City including preparation of spatial zoning plans with detailed socio-economic, infrastructural and environmental impact assessments;
- Preparation of a tourism master plan for Shaoxing City including preparation of zoning plans taking into consideration conservation and construction control issues and development of new urban tourist routes. The plan will emphasize urban cultural, historic and environmental resources, and;
- Development of 5 urban visitor attractions in Shaoxing City founded on 5 distinct historical and cultural communities in the City.
Project activities will eventually ensure that tourism through collaboration between public and private sectors including the local communities will ensure that tourism development through a careful laid out integrated tourism development plan will maximise the economic benefits in terms of income and employment generation as well as due consideration are given to protection of cultural, historic and environmental resources.
The project is headed by Dr. Erik Holm-Petersen and Mr. Benny Simonsen is our head-office project manager.
