POLAND, ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT IN THE WOOD INDUSTRY

The objective of the project is to introduce environmental management to Polish companies within the wood industry in order to improve their competitiveness towards Western European costumers, and reduce their environmental impacts by use of cleaner technology, better house-keeping etc.Through the project, knowledge of the benefits of environmental management will be disseminated to interested Polish wood companies. 10-12 Polish wood processing companies will make a detailed review of their environmental performance and set up environmental objectives and targets to be reached in order to improve the environmental performance and the competitiveness. 4-6 companies will implement a full environmental management system according to ISO 14001, and it is a goal that at least 1 company should obtain the ISO 144001 certificate at the end of the project.
Grontmij | Carl Bro a|s holds the project management and assists the companies in a step-by-step approach altering between common seminars arranged by Grontmij | Carl Bro and “homework” at the companies.
The following seminars will be arranged:
Introductory countrywide seminar; seminars on planning, on review of environmental performance and on setting up targets and action plans; seminars on system description, on system implementation and on internal auditing; final countrywide conference.
Other key activities include preparation of environmental declarations on selected products, preparation of newsletters and articles and a 1-week study trip to Denmark.
