Grontmij | Carl Bro International will, in cooperation with the Vietnamese authorities be responsible for the following components: 1. Design, tender and construction supervision of work to be carried out by local contractors. 2. Deciding upon, estimating and/or calculating quantities, ordering and having delivered to site equipment, components and materials required for the project works. 3. Deciding upon, selecting, ordering and having delivered equipment to be provided under the project (most of which will be for immediate use during the design stage by the Water Company or by other public sector agencies in order to fulfil the project objectives). 4. Providing assistance, advice and in-service training to local members of the project consultants Dalat team and to the Water Company and other public sectors agencies assisted under the project. The purpose of the programme is to develop sustainable operational capacity in the newly formed Department of Rural Water Supply (DRWS) and to select, prepare and implement about 250 community based water projects in the three northern oblasts (regions) of Naryn, Talas and Issyk-Kul. These three oblasts have a total population of 561.600 and contain about 390 villages. The goal is sustainable access to adequate and affordable water and sanitation, leading to improved health and quality of life for all including the most vulnerable. This includes (i) strengthening the new organisational set up for assisting rural communities in the Kyrgyz Republic to improve water supply and sanitation, (ii) Review, detailed design and implementation of 15 community based water supply and sanitation pilot projects and (iii) selection, preparation and implementation of about 250 community based water supply and sanitation projects. The National Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Programme (NRWSSP) aims to increase the water supply and sanitation coverage levels to 95% by year 2015. Luweero District Local Government intends to utilise funds for construction of handpumped boreholes for community water supply. Implementation of all water supply activities is carried out by the private sector including selection of sites and supervision of construction. (15-08-2002) |

The public health condition in the city of Tirana is so serious as a result of lack of potable water that emergency intervention is considered to be an urgent priority for some areas of the city including Kombinat and Ali Demi. EU Phare Programme has agreed to provide and fund technical expertise required for the design and implementation of Emergency Measures aiming to investments that ensure water supply of potable quality and without interruptions. Two priority areas are identified: Kombinat and Ali Demi. The total served population is 60,000 people. Both areas are dense urban, (15-08-2001) |
