So says 35-year-old Anders Friis-Wandall Nielsen, a qualified engineer and project manager at Grontmij | Carl Bro.
“The best thing about working at Grontmij | Carl Bro is the community spirit. I have contacts throughout the organisation, and that’s something I view as a strength when I do my work. There are also plenty of challenges; you just need to be prepared to grasp them,” comments Anders, who has taken up the challenge of being a project manager at Grontmij | Carl Bro. Anders was appointed in 2000 and currently works on plumbing and heating in the Building Division.
Proactive management “As a project manager, your role is to get the team functioning and demonstrate the behaviour towards customers and partners that provides the required quality and all-round expertise. Quite simply, you need to ensure that the entire palette of skills is included,” explains Anders. In addition, he emphasises the ability to be able to work in a structured way, thinking ahead and always being one step ahead in order to achieve the best control and quality: “Project management is therefore about being proactive, expecting the unexpected and being able to establish the necessary ‘sense of urgency’, so that things are always done on time.”
Communication is an important ingredient But having an overview and creating results is just part of it. Understanding people is also a vital parameter in the role of project manager: “You must be able to cooperate with all types of people in various situations, and that requires empathy and the ability to communicate. All this makes project management an exciting profession and a challenging task,” concludes Anders.
